Encoding Vs Decoding Reading3/18/2021
This was a handwriting in which the picture signs were abbreviated to the point of abstraction.UTF-8 is the preferred encoding for e-mail and web pages. The advent of digital communication resolved these problems to deliver a high quality, robust method of communication.Decoding does not need to happen out loud; it can happen inside someones head.
In other words, they need to know the basics to sound out words. It is helpful if readers are able to memorize how certain words sound, so when words are repeated, readers do not need to sound it out each time. Since peter is a white male, everything is supposedly fine, but if a colored male was driving the black van he would automatically be searched and possibly arrested. This animated comedy show revolves around the Griffin family, who arent your ordinary family, but rather a bit of a crazy one. The family unit consists of six family members, Peter and Lois being the parents; Meg, Chris and Stewie being the children; and the family dog, Brian. These characters use satirical humor, where they poke jokes about political figures, celebrities, and stereotypes of racial minority groups by using cut-away cut scenes to illustrate a reference towards their situations. Although Seth Macfarlane created this show to get some cheap laughs from its viewers, but the real purpose of this show is to bring about the issues in todays society such as racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination. As a fan of Family Guy, I think this show is brilliant in bringing up issues in society because people of society try to avoid discussing these serious issues that can lead to harsh disagreements and what better way to bring up these issues than using humor However, some viewers may strongly disagree and oppose this shows use of stereotypes and social issues because they can be utterly offensive to people of different racial backgrounds, gender and religious beliefs. This brings me to discuss cultural theorist and political activist, Stuart Halls theory of communication through media, which he emphasizes his encoding and decoding model in media. According to Stuart Halls encoding and decoding model, both the producer and the audience have very specific roles within this model. Producers, people who create a form of media that is based on their ideas or ideologies are known as the encoders. And the audience, viewers of the media that is produced are known as the decoders. In the process of encoding a message, the sender may use either verbal (words, signs, images) or non-verbal (body language, facial expressions) symbols to help the receiver better comprehend the message that is given. As the message is in the possession of the receiver, the audience takes and observes the message into an interpretation and translation process, where the coded information is decoded and translated into a comprehensible form. This process allows the opportunity for the receiver to reconstruct the idea by giving meanings to symbols and to interpret the message as a whole. However, the receiver of the senders message wont always get the expected response the producer was expecting. In fact, there are three ways a receiver can decode a message such as dominated, negotiated and oppositional. In this type of response, the audience or receiver fully accepts and reproduces the code to the producer or sender. For example, in the animated TV show Family Guy, Peter Griffin is constantly seen conducting unbelievable acts of mayhem to his friends, family and even to himself. As a viewer of the TV show, the intended response is dominated because the producer, Seth Macfarlane made it his main intention to create funny verbal content where the outcome of the audience or receiver will fully understand the content and will laugh their socks off as intended by the producer. This type of response partly believes the code and broadly accepts the message, but the receiver sometimes modifies the message that best reflects their own experiences, interests and positions. For example, in many Family Guy episodes, Peter and the rest of the familiar characters poke jokes about religion and peoples religious beliefs. Most jokes are about Jesus or God, which can hurt the shows reputation and may change many viewers responses towards the show. The show is intended to create comic material, where the viewer can exercise the producers intended response of laughter, but because of jokes where they offend peoples religious beliefs they will have a totally different response such as an oppositional response. This response completely disagrees with the producers message and depending on the receivers social position, they would reject the producers ideology. Many episodes in the Family Guy franchise illustrate many racial and religious stereotypes that can very much offend someone instead of getting a laugh out of them. Encoding Vs Decoding Reading Skin Colors ChartFor example, in the picture you see on the left, Peter is harboring a terrorist with a bomb inside of a black truck and is stopped by a police officer at a toll booth, who only uses a shade of skin colors chart to identify a threat.
